| There are two living species in this family and one extinct species. Hoopoes are found in Europe, Asia, and Africa. They live in dry, warm, open areas. They are cinnamon brown with black and white barred wings. They have long, curved, pointed bills; mohawk-like crests on their heads; and square tails. Hoopoes are 10-12 inches in length. They feed on the ground, using their long, pointed bills to probe for insects, worms and small lizards. They are very good runners.
