|   There are around 17 species in this family. They are found in oceans around the world at great depths, in fact, the abyssal halosaur is found at depths of 3,000-10,000 feet! Halosaurs have long, eel-like bodies covered with large scales and thin, whip-like tails that are pointed at the end. They have scaleless, pointed heads and large mouths. Halosaurs have a long anal fin that stretches the length of their tail. Halosaurs  move through the water with a snake-like motion.
